Video: How to upload your video to YouTube

Introduction

YouTube is another great tool to use when you want to share your videos. If you choose to upload your videos to YouTube the process is simple.

We will try and guide you on how to do it step by step, taking into account the privacy settings, and we will explain how you can share it with perspective companies or schools.

Step 1: Create an account/Log In

If you haven’t already, the first step is to create an account on YouTube. If you have a Gmail account, you could use that to log in.

Step 2: Uploading your video

While logged in, on the top right corner of your screen, you will see three icons. One icon leads you to the Upload Page, the second to your Notifications Page and the third to your Login Settings. It is the first you need to click on- Upload Page. The icon is the outline of a camera with the plus sign in its center. When you hover over it the word create should appear. Click on it to reveal the drop-down menu and then click on “upload video”.

A new window will open prompting you to select your files or to drag and drop the video you want to upload. Use whichever method you find preferable.

Step 3: Privacy and other settings

Once your video has loaded there are some steps you need to follow in order to finalise your upload. A list of settings will have appeared on your screen: details, video elements, checks and visibility (from left to right).
“Checks” is an automated process performed by YouTube in order to determine if there are any copyright issues with your video.
The two screens you need to focus on are “screen details” and “visibility”.

Let’s begin with the first:
Navigate down to the “audience” section and select ‘No, it’s not made for kids’. If you don’t select one of the options the upload wizard will not let you continue.
Once selected, continue further down in the navigation and click on show more. Continue scrolling down until you find the section “License” and then deselect the following: “Allow embedding”, “Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers”, “Allow people to sample this content”
An optional step if you wish is to “disable comments”.

Secondly:
Under “Visibility”, select “Unlisted”. This way you ensure that your video is not available to the public. Nobody besides the people you shared the link with will be able to see it. Then you can click on “Save”.

YouTube will prompt you with a pop-up screen alerting you your video has been published and it will give you a link that you can copy. Your video is now uploaded and ready to share!
