Video: How to upload your video to Vimeo

Introduction

Vimeo is a popular video-sharing platform that allows users to upload, share, and view videos. It is a great platform for dancers and choreographers to showcase their work and connect with other professionals in the dance industry.

If you are new to Vimeo, the article below will guide you on the uploading process in a few simple steps. Pay some attention to the privacy settings and shortly your video will be ready to share with perspective companies or schools!

Step 1: Create an account

If you don’t have one yet, you can sign up for a free account on the Vimeo website. Once you have created an account and logged in, you can start uploading videos to the platform.

Step 2: Upload

Hover over the “New Video” button on the top right corner of the Vimeo homepage and click on “Upload”.

A pop-up will appear asking you to choose which videos you want to upload. You can either drag and drop the videos off your computer or navigate the folders on your computer by clicking on the “Choose Files” button.

After you’ve selected the video files, you will be asked to fill in the information for your video, such as the title, description, and privacy settings. The title and description should be clear and concise, as they will be the first things viewers will see when they come across your video.

Step 3: Privacy Settings

The privacy settings will allow you to control who can see your video. You can set the video to be viewable to the public, or only to certain people or groups. Access this tab by clicking on the lock icon.

In the sharing tab, under the link options choose “Unlisted”. This will make your video visible only to the people with which you share the link. It will be private from anyone else on Vimeo and it won’t be visible on Google. If you want extra security you can choose the option “Password” but this will complicate the process for the company you share it with, often they skim through the email and don’t see the password.
On the bottom right of your page, under “Embed” choose “Nowhere”.

Once the video is uploaded, you will have the option to add captions, tags, and other information. It is not necessary to add anything here.
Once you have completed all the settings, click on the “Save Changes” button to publish the video.

Uploading videos to Vimeo is free, but there is a storage limit, however it is unlikely you will exceed this limit if your purpose is to upload your audition videos. The upload process may take some time, depending on the size of the video and your internet connection speed. Be patient, and you will have your video on Vimeo in no time!
